Basanti has arisen to empower vulnerable women who face poverty, social exclusion and exploitation. As well as providing economic stability, we endeavour to build their sense of dignity and self-worth, resulting in hope and peace.
New Beginnings
Like the season of Spring, Basanti is the story of new beginnings.
Our women are trained and carefully supervised so that we can
produce quality handmade products for the export market.

Rumpa – 23 years old – is the sole income earner of her family.
She says she learnt a lot through the Basanti program. Now she has
purchased a sewing machine, she works from her home to sew clothing.
She loves gaining new skills and has grown more confident. She hopes
to provide a regular income for her family.
Aridhi is 19 years old, but was married when she was thirteen.
Her husband works in a shop. Though they are poor, she is resourceful.
Basanti’s empowerment program is her first opportunity to get some new
skills. She loves sewing and Aridhi’s dream is to begin a tailoring shop.

Her husband is addicted to alcohol and cannot provide for the family.
Now she takes great pride in sewing dresses for her daughter!
Through the skills training program, she has gained much hope and

India is known for its ancient designs, artistry and craftsmanship. We have explored Kolkata’s famous markets that overflow with beautiful textiles, ceramics, papers and ornaments. What a treasure trove!
From these amazing resources we create something original. Young and old, we have some-thing for everyone.
Craftset with Wooden Blocks
This beautiful craftset is especially designed for you to explore the ancient art of block printing on paper or cloth, air clay or playdough. Each block has been uniquely carved by a skilled artisan and treated with natural oil.
Each craftset includes 3 or 6 carved wooden blocks, handmade papers, cloth, cards, envelopes,gift tags, punched designs, ornaments, acrylic paint and tools. It also includes a detailed instruction sheet with QR code

Starter set
We also offer starter sets for those who want to try block printing, but don't require the whole craftset
These contain either three small blocks, or one large and one small block. It also has an instruction sheet, with a QR code to link to our video. Also included are a set of handmade papers, gift tags, cloth, and a small pot of acrylic paint. Plus a pouch to store it all in.
